Viggo Mortensen Reveals His All-Time Favorite Lord of the Rings Scene

The King's Choice
Viggo Mortensen gave one of the greatest performances in fantasy history as Aragorn. He fought orcs, ghosts, and trolls. But when asked recently about his favorite scene to film, he chose a moment of intimate tragedy.
The Death of Boromir
"It's the scene with Sean [Bean]," Mortensen revealed. "When Boromir dies."
In the climax of The Fellowship of the Ring, Boromir redeems himself by defending Mery and Pippin, taking multiple arrows to the chest. Aragorn finds him, and they share a final exchange.
"I would have followed you, my brother... my captain... my king." — Boromir
Mortensen explained why it stands out. "It was real. We were in the woods, it was cold, and Sean just gave everything. It wasn't about the green screen or the monsters. It was two men saying goodbye. That's the heart of the movie."
Why It resonates
For fans, this validates what we've always known: the action in LOTR is great, but the brotherhood is what makes it legendary. Aragorn kissing Boromir's forehead remains one of the most tender portrayals of masculinity in cinema.
25 years later, the King still knows best.
