Will Smith is related to Chris Rock in music. On his new album, “Based on the True Story,” released Friday’s new album, Smith, without hesitation, wasted faces the infamous Oscars. The track “International Barbershop – Day” immediately took the sentence as the tone: “Will Smith was cancelled.” Featured by DJ Jazzy Jeff and B. Simone, the song mimics Barbershop Chatter, and the voice debates Smith's actions. “Who would Smith think who he is?” one person asked, and another said, “I will never forgive him for the kind of shit he did.” The controversy stemmed from the 2022 Academy Awards, where Smith joked about Jada Pinkett Smith being a bald joke, attributed to her hair loss diagnosis. After hitting the rock, Smith returned to his seat and shouted, “Let my wife's name not be in your fucking mouth!” Later that night, he accepted the “King of Richard” Oscar for Best Actor. “International Barbershop – One Day” directly addressed the strong opposition. “I heard he won the Oscar, but he had to give it back to him/and you know they just let him do that because he was black.” In fact, Smith kept the Oscar but resigned from the academy and was banned from the 10-year event. The second track, “Do you watch it for me?” also hints at the fallout. “Took a lot, I'm back on top/ Y'all gon' have to get acclimated,” he rapped. “Based on a True Story” marks Smith's first solo album in 20 years, following his post-slap cinematic return in “Emancipation” and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” Like this:Like Loading…Discover more from Baller AlertSubscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email.
