If you've recently picked up a great deal on chicken soup at Walmart, it's time to check your pantry. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of more than 2,000 boxes of the product in December because of packaging issues that could lead to spoilage. The recall affects family-size 48-ounce cartons of chicken soup manufactured by Tree House Foods and sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Sold at 242 Walmart stores in nine states in Texas. The affected cartons are marked with lot code 98F09234, retail unit UPC 007874206684, case UPC 078742066844, and a best before date of March 25, 2026. Consumers who purchased the recalled product should immediately throw it away or return it to the store for a full refund. Although no illnesses have been reported, the FDA warns that bacterial spoilage is difficult to detect because contaminated food may show no change in taste, smell or appearance. Consumption of spoiled products can lead to foodborne illness, including gastrointestinal symptoms. A Walmart spokesperson stressed: “The health and safety of our customers is always our top priority. As soon as we became aware of this issue, we took action to remove all affected products from selected affected stores. We are continuing to work with our suppliers Cooperate to investigate.” The recall is one of several recent incidents affecting Walmart products. On December 31, the FDA also issued a recall of Braga Fresh's Marketside Broccoli Florets due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Ready-to-eat 12-ounce broccoli kits are sold at Walmart stores in 20 states. Like this: Like Loading… Discover more with Baller AlertSubscribe and get the latest posts delivered to your email.
