The driver of the fatal Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas has been identified as Matthew Liersberg, a 37-year-old U.S. Army veteran from Colorado Springs, Colorado. (Matthew Livelsberger). Lifsberger died in the blaze and seven bystanders were injured. Authorities revealed the electric rental truck was packed with fireworks, gas cans and camping fuel when it exploded on New Year's Day. The car was rented through car-sharing platform Turo and tracked from Colorado to Nevada using Tesla's telemetry data. Federal investigators are currently digging into Lifsberg's background, with the FBI conducting searches at several locations in Colorado Springs linked to the veteran. Law enforcement sources noted that Lifsberg served in the military for nearly two decades, primarily in Special Forces. His last role was reportedly focused on autonomous systems management. The incident drew comparisons to another New Year's Day attack in New Orleans, when a rented electric Ford truck exploded in a devastating explosion that killed 15 people and injured dozens more. Both trucks were rented through Turo, and investigators are looking into possible connections between the drivers because Livesberger and New Orleans suspect Shamsuddin Jabbar reportedly served at the same military base. Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke about the incident, stressing that the Cybertruck's design minimized damage to the Trump Hotel, directing the blast upwards and sparing the building's lobby. Yu Difficulty.
