Trump has taken another unconventional move, naming a conservative media personality, with former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino serving as deputy director of the FBI. Positions traditionally held by FBI agents do not require Senate confirmation. Bongino will serve under Trump loyalist Kash Patel, who was identified as a director of the FBI last week. The duo will now lead U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, a longtime Trump ally who leads the top U.S. law enforcement agencies. “Dan Bongino is a loving and passionate person for my country, he has just been named the best ever by the next deputy director of the FBI,” Trump wrote in a social media post. The director Kash Patel is the man of Kash Patel. “Working with our new U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Patel Director Patel, Fairness, justice, law and order will be brought back to the United States quickly.” Bongino has built a career in conservative media after several failed congressional bids. He became a voice critic of the FBI, who had previously called for mass shootings within the agency. His appointment violated a long tradition of filling the role of deputy director with experienced FBI agents, raising questions about Trump’s influence about the direction of the bureau.
