Trump targets Smithsonian Institution, Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture to take indefinite leave

A museum spokesman quoted by The Washington Post said Kevin Young, director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., has been on private leave and will remain indefinitely. The news was reportedly published internally and marks Young's first absence since taking the position in 2021. The museum is currently led by Shanita Brackett, deputy director of operations. Young's leave begins, with President Donald Trump issued an executive order on March 27 against the Smithsonian Institution, which supervises museums. The order criticized what Trump called “anti-American ideology” in the Smithsonian exhibition, especially an exhibition that quotes race and monuments from the Smithsonian American Art Gallery, while the NMAAHC text calls “hard work” and “individualism” elements of “white culture.” Trump also proposed a proposed potential potential for national state in another order.
