The Trump administration is paying El Salvador President Nayib Bukele $6 million to accommodate 300 deported immigrants, even as federal judges issue temporary stops. On Saturday, U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg ruled that he would be deported under Trump's 18th-century war announcement. But by then, two planes carrying the deported oil were already in the air. One is tied to El Salvador and the other is tied to Honduras. Boasberg verbally ordered the plane to turn, but the deportation continued as he did not include it in a formal written ruling. Bukele, a Trump ally, responded on social media, appearing to mock the judge's decision. He posted on Twitter “Oopsie…it’s too late”, referring to the fact that deportation has already happened. White House communications director Steven Cheung even revisited the position. Marco Rubio defended the move, saying El Salvador agreed to the order to accommodate more than 250 members of the Venezuelan Gang Tren de Aragua in its prison. The Justice Department acknowledged on Sunday that some immigrants had been deported when the ruling was decided. The government has since appealed the judge's ruling and said it would use other legal means to continue deportation if necessary.
