Donald Trump has taken another step in his ongoing battle with Democratic rivals, ordering a federal investigation into Actblue, the Democratic Party’s main fundraising platform. In an executive order signed Thursday, Trump directed newly appointed lawyer PAM Bondi to bring charges from Republicans, a charge brought by Republicans that allowed ACTBLUE to allow illegal campaigning. The move marks another moment when Trump is using his presidency to target his political opponents directly. Actblue is a key player in grassroots fundraising efforts for the nation’s Democratic Party and has not stopped her from responding. The group's leaders slammed the Trump administration's “oppressive use.” Democratic leaders have been doing this moment, and as tensions between the parties continue to intensify, Actblue will eventually land in the crosshair. They quickly condemned the president's actions, accusing him of weapons for the benefit of politics. Actblue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones is relieved that supporters will continue to operate transparently and fully comply with federal and state laws, vowing that the organization will not be detained.
