After U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff urged immediate action, the Trump administration reversed the course and resumed federal scholarships for HBCU students studying agriculture. The funding was part of the USDA's National Scholar Program in the 1890s and has been suspending black colleges and universities with agricultural programs. After Osov called for an emergency recovery, the government reopened the application process. In a statement following the decision, Senator Ossoff criticized the initial funding pause, saying: “The Trump administration should never suspend this funding first. I will continue to monitor to ensure that Georgia HBCU students get relevant Congressional support. The restoration of the state marks a victory for the HBCU in its agricultural profession, ensuring that they can get the financial support initially allocated by Congress.
