The story of one of the most influential girls groups in music history is on the stage. CrazySexyCool – The TLC Musical will make its world premiere at Washington DC's Arena Stage Theater from June 12 through August 9, 2026, as part of the Venue's 75th anniversary season.Written and directed by Olivier Award-winner Kwame Kwei-Armah, the musical is being described as a “semi-biographical” journey through the groundbreaking trio's rise, impact, and cultural legacy. From bold fashion statements to fearless lyrics, TLC changed the sounds and faces of pop and R&B throughout the 1990s, with memorable hits like “No Scrubs”, “No Scrubs”, “Waterfalls” and “Unrpretty.” “Why do you have a musical? Why now? Their lives need to be sung. It's about that time!” The work will feature Chloe O. Davis's choreography and will use TLC's original music to help tell the group's story, tracking them on their journey of fame, tragedy and reinvention. Kwei-Armah previously served as Bob Marley Musical, and he incorporated the iconicity of his musical storytelling and cultural commentary into the project. The show is just one of nine works planned for Arena Stage’s Milestone’s 2025-2026 season. Other notable titles include the reimagined damn Yankees that will be adapted by Will Power and Doug Wright, and Pal Joey, directed by Savion Glover and Tony Goldwyn. This season will also include new works such as Fremont Ave. My joy is heavy, and the revival of inherited winds. It's a crazy show of performances, and this musical not only promises to revisit a generation's soundtrack, but also explores real-life triumphs and fascinating music. Whether you're a lifelong fan or just discovering the legacy of TLC, the stage will announce a powerful, incredible tribute at a later date. Tickets and a full cast.
