The boxing world is currently in the midst of a heated exchange between Clarissa Shields and Laila Ali. What started as a mentor versus mentee situation quickly turned into a public feud, with neither side backing down. Video The situation unfolded during a recent interview, when Ali opened up about the reasons for her strained relationship with Shields. Ali revealed that Shields initially contacted her for guidance and career advice. However, things turned sour when Shields allegedly began questioning Ali's legacy in boxing. “You can think you can beat me,” Ali said while acknowledging Shields' confidence. “It's OK. You should think so. But to start carrying on my legacy, the things I've done and haven't done… it's a lot.” Back in 2019, Ali told “Sway's Universe ” interview and expressed her belief that Shields could not beat her in a boxing match. Of course, Shields caught wind of the conversation and offered a match with Ali to prove her wrong. While the fight may not have happened, Ali insisted she had no issues with Shields but made it clear the 29-year-old has had recurring issues in the industry. Now, of course, Shields isn't one to shy away from a fight or argument, and she was quick to respond to Ali and her claims. In a five-minute video, Shields spent some time accusing Ali of being “jealous” of her and criticizing the advice she was trying to make. “I already knew she was jealous,” Shields said. “Now, I'm getting the biopic. I know the fight is coming. She's acting like I owe her something, which is weird.” Shields continued about Ali, claiming her attitude and behavior would hinder her success, which The boxer found this interesting because she had come a long way. “I'm trying to figure out why she's here when it comes to me. She really offended me today. She said burn bridges and if I continue to burn bridges, I'm not going to get very far,” Shields said. “I’m further than Laila Ali in my career and my life,” she continued. “She wants to come over and give this big sister advice… but I’m already further than you are… and I Will continue to work hard.” So far, though, it's unclear if these ladies will ever see eye to eye, but with Ali becoming a trailblazer in women's boxing and Shields dubbing herself “GWOT,” this clash of giants is pushing boxing forward The world is in trouble “It's my time now, and she's never had my back in my time,” Shields added Like this: Like Loading… Discover more from Baller Alert Subscribe to be up to date.
