The story between the Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler is getting more sour by the day. NBA insider Jake Fischer reported earlier this week that Butler regularly skipped multiple shootarounds and requested to fly private instead of taking the Heat's charter flight. This report is consistent with the notion that Butler lacked effort before being suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. . The timing of this report is odd, following reports that face-to-face meetings between Heat president Pat Riley and Butler failed to change his stance. It was also noted that when Thomas Bryant and Josh Richardson were brought to the Heat last season to help the team, Butler believed there would never be a winning roster capable of competing with him until his career was over. . This morning, NBA insider Chris B. Haynes reported that Butler's request to fly alone makes sense. Jimmy (Butler) took less than five separate flights from the team in five years, four of which were during the Finals against the Denver Nuggets when his father was ill. That version of the story sounded correct. I don’t believe Miami will try to paint Butler as the problem again after his quick indirect response via coverage. The NBA trade deadline is about three weeks away, and Miami may want to start making calls before they put their last foot on the line and potentially lose their best player without getting anything in return.
