
A man close to the British royal family has been identified as one of the 15 victims killed in the January 1 attack in New Orleans.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Edward Pettifer, the stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, Prince William and Prince Harry's former nanny, was found guilty of murdering 42-year-old Shamsuddin Jabbar. The 31-year-old, who lives in Chelsea, west London, had visited Louisiana with friends, the British newspaper reported the times and the sun reported.
Legge-Bourke, 59, married Edward's father, former Coldstream Guards officer Charles Pettifer, in 1999. She worked as a nanny to William, 41, and Harry, 40, from 1993 to 1999, shortly after King Charles and Princess Diana separated.
A Buckingham Palace source told People that King Charles was “deeply saddened” to learn of the tragedy.

“Charles was informed of the death of Edward Pettyfer through official channels,” the source said. “He is deeply saddened and has contacted the family to express his personal condolences.”

Prince William shared a statement on his Instagram Stories, saying: “Catherine and I are shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of Ed Pettyfer.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, January 1, the FBI put the death toll from the deadly attack in New Orleans at 15.

“The entire family is devastated by the tragic news of Edward's passing in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend to many,” Edward's family said in a statement shared by police.
They added: “We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost loved ones as a result of this horrific attack. “We ask that we can privately express our condolences to Ed's family on their loss. Thanks. “

Authorities confirmed in preliminary reports that Abdul-Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, drove a Ford pickup truck through Bourbon Street at about 3:15 a.m. local time.
The New Orleans Police Department previously confirmed that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police at the scene.
The FBI said they are “working to determine the subject's potential ties and affiliations with terrorist organizations,” according to a news release.
