Oklahoma mother arrested after baby with dirty diaper abandoned at Florida casino

An Oklahoma mother is in jail after abandoning her baby during a trip to a Florida casino. Rubi Verduzco, 29, was arrested on two counts of felony child neglect after the baby was discovered on Dec. 24 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. On Christmas Eve, a police officer arrived at the scene and found the baby wearing a dirty diaper dumped in the open. An employee told authorities that three men dropped the baby by the service desk and walked away. The baby was allegedly left alone for 30 minutes before police arrived. Verduzco emerged 15 minutes later, claiming she had gotten into an argument with her “baby daddy” and left the baby with an unknown friend. She was reportedly drunk, with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. She provided police with the child's name but was unsure of the child's date of birth. When asked about the child's father, she contacted a man who initially claimed to be in Oklahoma but later said he was in Orlando and was unsure if the child could be recovered. Verduzco was arrested for not knowing who was watching her children and for how long. The Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of the infant and Verduzco was being held in the Broward County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
