An Ohio woman is suing a hospital and police after she was arrested after suffering a miscarriage. Brittany Watts, who was charged with abuse of a corpse after the incident, has filed a federal lawsuit accusing medical professionals of conspiring with police to fabricate a criminal case against her. The lawsuit names the hospital, the city of Warren, Ohio and others, accusing them of abuse. Watts Rights and Federal Law. The case gained national attention in 2023, fueling concerns about the criminalization of abortion after Roe v. Wade was struck down. said Watts' attorney, Julia Rickert. In September 2023, Watts sought medical help for pain and bleeding 21 weeks into her pregnancy. The lawsuit alleges she received inadequate care before suffering a miscarriage while using the bathroom at home. After she returned to the hospital, a nurse allegedly contacted police and made false statements about Watts' behavior. A police officer questioned Watts from her hospital bed and allegedly distorted the facts to suggest she had committed a crime. Watts was arrested in October on a felony charge of abuse of a corpse, but the charge was dismissed in January 2024 after a grand jury declined to indict her. The lawsuit seeks damages for Watts' abuse and criminal conviction, arguing it violated her constitutional and medical rights. Watts was deeply affected by the ordeal and decided to pursue a career in nursing. “She felt very strongly that health care shouldn't be done this way,” Richter said. “She wanted to be able to provide better care for people.” Like this: Like Loading… Discover more from Baller Alert Subscribe to get the latest posts delivered to your email.
