Disturbing newly released surveillance footage shows a robbery taking place as the Los Angeles area continues to battle destructive wildfires. VIDEO Home security video released Monday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office captured intruders breaking into a home in Altadena, a state-sanctioned home. Communities hardest hit by ongoing fires. In the video, multiple people can be seen walking past an evacuated house. It appears to have been largely unaffected by the fire, as several pieces of furniture can be seen in the video. The people in the video were wearing hoodies and some were wearing backpacks. Some of them went upstairs, while others stayed downstairs and out of sight. It's unclear what they retrieved from the home. Authorities say the chaos caused by wildfires has exacerbated criminal activity in affected areas. At least 20 people have been arrested for entering uninhabited areas and buildings during the ongoing disaster. Nine of the people were charged with robbery and face multiple felony counts of burglary and theft, officials announced Monday. Los Angeles County officials insist anyone caught robbing during this time will face severe penalties. The fires have burned thousands of acres, forced evacuations in multiple communities, continued to challenge firefighters and disrupted daily life. Authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious activity and increased patrols in evacuated areas to deter further crime.
