Thanks to Netflix, “Another World” is getting a second wind. After reporting on its development, Ribbons have officially ordered derivative products. Netflix will film a pilot for a sequel in the 1987 sitcom that will follow Dwayne and Whitley's daughter Deborah during the HBCU. As Deadline previously reported in August, the project has been in progress since last year, and the pilot order is part of the process. This marks Netflix's second known pilot pickup after its 2023 comedy pilot “Little Sky” was affected by the WGA strike. Sources show that the “Little Sky” and “Different Worlds” pilots are one-off and not part of a broader strategic shift. A pilot is often used as a proof of concept for testing tone, actor chemistry and comedy timing. The sequel is led by writer/executive producer Felicia Pride, including executive producers such as Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince by thewood and Regggie Bythewood. Allen's original series will direct the pilots scheduled for filming in Atlanta in June. Launched for Deborah and other college students aged 18-20. It is unclear whether the beloved fictional Hillman Academy will pay off.
