Meta is coming for TikTok creators — the tech giant has launched a new incentive called the Breakthrough Bonus Program, offering up to $5,000 reward. The move comes as TikTok continues to face potential bans and regulatory scrutiny in the United States, providing Meta with a prime opportunity to lure creators away from its biggest rival. Here’s how the program works: The bonus is available to people who already have a presence on another social app and are willing to link it to their meta account during the application process. Once accepted, participants must create a professional account on Instagram and a page on Facebook to start earning money. To redeem the full $5,000, creators must share at least 20 Reels on Facebook and 10 Reels on Instagram every 30 days. Additionally, content must be published at least 10 days per month, and payment amounts are based on an assessment of the creator's overall social media presence. The program lasts for 90 days, during which time creators can earn bonuses for consistent posting. But it doesn’t stop there, Meta also offers creators access to its Facebook Content Monetization program, which allows them to make money from: photos, text posts, and videos. For some creators, Meta is even offering a free one-year subscription to its Meta Verified plan. This provides benefits such as blue verification marks and counterfeit protection, making the transition to the Meta platform more attractive. While Meta did not explicitly name TikTok as a target, the timing and terms of the plan made it clear who they were targeting. TikTok has been under scrutiny recently due to privacy concerns and political scrutiny, including a temporary ban that has made U.S. creators nervous. Meta seems to be taking advantage of this uncertainty, using Instagram and Facebook as more stable platforms for creators to build their brands. Interestingly, the bonus program seems to prioritize Facebook over Instagram, as creators are required to post twice as many Reels on Facebook. This signals Meta's efforts to increase original content on the platform, which has seen declining engagement in recent years compared to Instagram. In addition to breakout bonuses, Meta has reportedly struck high-value deals with big-name creators. Some TikTok stars are allegedly paid up to $50,000 per month to publish their content on Reels before any other platform. While Meta has not confirmed these specific deals, a spokesperson said the company has expanded its investment in content partnerships to support more creators. Meta has made an aggressive push to attract TikTok stars while making other updates to its platform, including extending the length of Instagram Reels to three minutes and redesigning the Instagram grid for better content visibility.
