A new federal prosecution has been reported in the case of killer Luigi Mangione, qualifying him for the death penalty. On Thursday, a federal grand jury in New York returned four indictments, accusing Mangione of two counts of crime, two counts, one firearm, one firearm crime, and murder by using firearm. The charges qualify him for death. Attorney General Pam Bondi has said she intends to commit the death penalty, although Mangione’s defense team is actively working to prevent the outcome. Mangione, who faces charges of murder in New York State, appeared in the Manhattan Supreme Court on February 21, 2025. He insists on his innocence, and his supporters have raised thousands for the defense. Prosecutors claim his actions were motivated by his disdain for the U.S. health insurance industry.
