Former Interscope executive Larry Jackson praised Chief Keef's rise to fame as a teenager. On the New York Times Popcast, Jackson, who now runs gamma, opened up about the crazy threats Keef faced when Interscope signed him. In 2012, Jackson shared that Keefe was on the FBI watch list and even got shot in the head. “I got a call from a friend who was connected to the FBI,” Jackson said. “He told me this kid (Chief Keef) was on the watch list. He also told me this kid got hit with a $50,000 hit and you might want to do something about it. He even wrote a letter to the judge asking Keef to Stay out of jail. So it's a lot deeper than, 'Yeah, let me sign this guy because everyone wants him and there's a bidding war for him.' No, it's a lot deeper in terms of vision. Much more—not just to music, but to his life. Because of this, we are still very close to this day.
