Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass deleted LAFD chief Kristin Crowley and cited the January storm and the wildfires ready after the Palisades fire. Beth accused Crowley of sending 1,000 firefighters home on the morning of the fire, refusing to conduct a post-action report, saying she was removed as necessary for public safety. Crowley ranks under her civil servant rights. Interim chief Ronnie Villanueva, a 41-year veteran, has been appointed to her position. The decision sparked Rebound, Councilman Monica Rodriguez called it a “replacement” and encouraged Crowley to appeal. LAFD defended its action, noting it issued multiple times before the Wind Incident Fire warnings and briefings. As Palisades Fire becomes California’s deadliest, officials are reviewing whether more can be done to prevent its spread. Crowley’s removal may inspire leadership and wildfire preparation in Los Angeles further debate.
