A homeless man has been arrested for intentionally setting a fire near a Los Angeles wildfire. Video Police in Azusa, about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, detained Jose Carranza-Escobar on suspicion of arson after a late-night fire near Pioneer Park bush fire. Friday night. Emergency crews were called shortly after 11:30 p.m. and a witness directed police to the suspect, who was still at the scene. Carranza-Escobar was a passerby who was found standing next to the flames and later admitted to being the arsonist. He was arrested and charged with arson. The Los Angeles County Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze. The incident occurred as authorities were investigating a person found near the scene of the Kenneth Fire in West Hills. Fires in the San Fernando Valley broke out during evacuations, and brush fires broke out across Southern California during high wind warnings. The Palisades and Eaton fires were particularly devastating, claiming the lives of 11 people and destroying hundreds of structures. The Azusa Police Department is warning residents to remain vigilant. “We must be vigilant about those who may enter our communities with the intention of starting a fire,” the department said in a statement.
