On what would have been late singer Alia's 46th birthday, Mattel commemorated her with her very own Barbie doll. Surprisingly, the doll sold out almost immediately upon announcement, with fans waiting for restocks. The doll is inspired by Aaliyah's “One in a Million” music video outfit and wears a sleeveless faux leather tank top, a black faux leather tank top, leather crop top and silver embellished pants. To complete the look, the doll also comes with Aaliyah's signature black aviator sunglasses and matching armband. “Today is Aaliyah's birthday, and Barbie is paying tribute to the R&B princess' unparalleled legacy as a once-in-a-lifetime talent,” the official Barbie Instagram account posted. “Aaliyah Barbie was a rising star who left an unforgettable mark on pop culture, and her iconic style is still remembered today, allowing her influence to be passed down from generation to generation.” Although this doll is packed with style , but it's more than just looks. The doll is a symbol of Aaliyah's pioneering contribution to music. More specifically, her sophomore album One in a Million solidified her place in the industry as an unstoppable force to be reckoned with, earning her a double platinum certification within a year of its release . Produced by Timbaland and Missy Elliott, the album features hits including “If Your Girl Only Knew,” “Hot Like Fire” and the sexy title track “One in a Million.” Additionally, Grammy-nominated songs “Are You That Somebody” and “Try Again” are added with a smoother and more innovative approach, the latter of which made history as the first single to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 from radio alone. Despite this, 22-year-old Aaliyah tragically took his own life in a plane crash in August 2001, leaving a huge hole in the music industry. However, Mattel hopes the doll will help heal at least some of the ongoing wounds. The doll was originally priced at $55 for the 59 members of Mattel's Barbie Club, but the limited-edition item will be available again at Target on January 26 for $55.99.
