
Google has agreed to pay $28 million to resolve the class action lawsuit, which claims the company favors white and Asian employees in California’s Hispanic, Native, Native American, Native American, Pacific Islander, Pacific Islander and Hawaiian workers, while Hispanic, Native, Native American, Pacific Islander and Indigenous in California. Promotions are performed despite performing the same work as white and Asian colleagues. The case was filed by Ana Cantu, a former Google worker of Mexican and Indigenous descent, who worked for the company for seven years in HR and cloud computing. She claims that despite the improvement and earning more money from White and Asia’s employees, she remains in the same position despite their outstanding performance. According to Cantu, Google's actions violated the California Equality Act. She left the company in September 2021. A California judge approved the settlement last week, calling it fair and reasonable. The agreement includes: $20.4 million allocated among affected employees for $7 million in legal fees, a fine Google has denied any wrongdoing, and a company spokesman said it remains committed to providing all employees with fair salary and equal treatment.
