Cook County Sheriff's Deputy Shamone Duncan, a 20-year veteran of the Cook County Department of Corrections, was tragically shot and killed on Saturday, January 18, while vacationing in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Duncan and local resident Dario Stubbs were both killed in the shooting. The third victim, a 29-year-old man, was injured and remains in hospital. Police stressed there was no evidence Duncan, Stubbs or the injured were specifically targeted. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Duncan's family said she was killed on the second night of a vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands, where she was celebrating her sister's birthday.
