With TikTok potentially leaving the U.S. for good and Meta rolling back necessary DEI measures, the Fanbase app is growing in popularity. Video A completely black-owned app run by Isaac Hayes III ranked No. 42 among all apps in the Apple iOS store on Saturday. Hayes expressed his gratitude in a video on Instagram while encouraging others to check out the fan library. “To my knowledge, this is the only independently established social media platform that I'm aware of,” Hayes noted. “I'm actually spending some time here now.” For the social networking app as a whole, the fan base is even higher, reaching No. 8 on the chart, shared with Earn Your Leisure. This explosive growth comes at a critical time when social media users are being forced to re-evaluate their app usage. In addition to removing several DEI measures, Meta has also updated its content moderation policy. The company eliminated third-party fact-checking in favor of community notes. This shift allows for more hate speech, especially directed at members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Most TikTok users are now panicking, although many have turned to Lemon8, which is owned by the same parent company ByteDance. If ByteDance cannot find a new buyer, Lemon8, another video-sharing app with similar functionality, will also face a ban when TikTok is officially removed from the U.S. App Store on January 19. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the company is planning to sell. This will only further open the way for a thriving fan base.
