The Case of the Open Tab
The internet is the world's greatest detective agency, and sometimes, the world's most annoying one. In the new Netflix documentary One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, a brief shot of Ross Duffer's laptop screen caused a meltdown.
Sleuths claimed they saw a tab for ChatGPT open while the brothers were writing the script for the grand finale.
The Accusation
Fans immediately began theorizing: "Is Season 5 written by a bot?" "Is that why it's taking so long?" The fear is understandable. The WGA strike was largely about protecting writers from AI. If the showrunners of the biggest show on Earth were using it, that would be a betrayal.
The Reality
The Duffer Brothers clarified the situation. Yes, the tab was there. No, it wasn't writing the script. "We use it to generate D&D names for background characters or to quickly check 1980s trivia," Ross explained. "It's a glorified Google search for us. It can't write dialogue for Eleven. It doesn't know how to cry."
AI in Hollywood
This incident highlights the tension in the industry. Tools like ChatGPT are becoming ubiquitous, but the line between "tool" and "creator" is blurry. For now, rest assured: the emotional trauma of the Stranger Things finale will be 100% human-made.
Stranger Things 5 arrives in 2026.
