Baroque in the Dark
There is something about Baroque music that demands atmosphere. The Bach Society of Minnesota understands this, unleashing a new series of "Candlelight Concerts" that aim to transport audiences back to the 18th century.
The Concept
It is exactly what it sounds like. A string quartet or chamber orchestra performs J.S. Bach's intricate fugues and concertos illuminated only by hundreds of (flameless, for safety) candles. The visual simplicity forces the audience to focus entirely on the counterpoint. Without the glare of stage lights or the distraction of phones (it's too dark to film!), the listening experience becomes meditative.
A Global Trend
"Candlelight" concerts have become a global phenomenon, popularized by companies like Fever. But seeing a dedicated Bach Society take on the format ensures that the musical quality matches the aesthetic appeal. This isn't just for Instagram; it's for serious listeners who want serious ambiance.
