Donald Trump announced the “final proposal” Wednesday to save the U.S. Tiktok, Amazon has filed a surprising bid to buy the embattled app. The tech giant made the proposal in a letter to JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, which was confirmed by anonymous Trump administration officials to AP News. The move comes as the U.S. ban on Tiktok will take effect on Saturday. Trump granted Tiktok a probation on the inauguration day, bypassing a Supreme Court-backed law that considered it necessary for national security. Under the law, Tiktok's parent company, BYTEDANCE, must sell the app to an approved buyer, or offline in a U.S. app store. He hopes to reach a deal on Saturday when Trump hinted that the ban could be extended. Amazin's bid surfaced as Trump prepares to meet with senior officials to discuss the looming deadline for Tiktok's sale. The app denies that both the FBI and the Federal Communications Commission have raised concerns about sharing user data with the Chinese government. Despite these security issues, the video sharing platform says this will never be followed if such data is required. During his first term, Trump took a skeptical stance against Tiktok and even issued execution orders to ban business transactions with Bytedance and Wechat owners and could not reach a deal while writing.
