Communities unite to provide hygiene, hair care for Black girls affected by LA wildfires

As many residents in the Los Angeles area continue to battle devastating wildfires, multiple organizers are helping the community. One initiative is providing support to young black girls who lost everything in the fires, including sanitary products. Local organizer and television manager Ashley Taylor is spearheading efforts to help black girls in middle and high schools in Pasadena and Altadena who have been affected by the fast-moving flames. In times of crisis, these young girls deserve a sense of normalcy, which is why Taylor and others are providing essential hygiene, beauty and hair products that can make a meaningful difference. The initiative calls on the community to donate hygiene products such as body wash, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products and beauty products such as lip balm, skin care essentials and light makeup. Hair care donations including shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, edge control and styling tools are also being sought. In such a tragic time, many families in predominantly black communities are unable to afford the necessities of life. The purpose of this movement is not only to help young girls rebuild their homes, but also to help them rebuild their dignity and sense of self-care. Amazon has created a wish list to assist with these efforts. All items purchased from the list will go directly to girls in need and their families. As of Wednesday, the death toll from the fires had risen to 24 and more than 12,000 buildings were destroyed. The Palisades Fire, which has sparked many other fires, is only 21% contained.
