Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn refuses to be interviewed by New England Patriots head coach

When defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn attended the Detroit Pistons' home game on Monday night, he received a standing ovation that lasted nearly thirty seconds. Detroit's love for the Lions and everyone involved in the rebuild is evident, especially as they lead the franchise to its first No. 1 seed in more than three decades. Glenn is focused on the playoffs, but he's also one of the hottest names in head coaching circles, with five teams currently looking for a football coach. The New England Patriots fired Jarrod Mayo two hours after the game ended, a decision that received a lot of backlash. Many thought Mayo had done the best he could with the roster and a rookie quarterback who couldn't start in his first game. However, Patriots front office and owner Robert Kraft believed the former player's leadership had run its course. Former Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and coach/former quarterback Byron Leftwich were both interviewed on Tuesday. On Thursday, the coach many tipped to take over the job, former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, sat down with the Patriots. Vrabel served on the coaching staff from 2001 to 2008. Aaron Glenn was expected to interview this week, but reports say Glenn ultimately declined to interview for the position. However, Glenn has five other interviews this weekend, including with the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars. If NFL teams are smart, Glenn will accept the head coaching job next month, although his current job is far from done. He projects to navigate his depleted defense in a tough NFC divisional playoff run and potentially win the Detroit organization's first Super Bowl.
