Four years have passed since Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, aiming to overturn the results of the 2020 election. A total of nine people died in the attack on the Capitol on January 6. Five people died during or shortly after the riots, including Ashli Babbitt, Rosanne Boyland, Kevin Greeson, Benjamin Benjamin Philips and Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. In the months following the attack, four police officers responded to the scene — Jeffrey Smith, Howard Liebengood, Kyle DeFreytag and Gunther Hashida — Died by suicide. More than 1,500 people have since been charged with federal crimes related to the attack, and more than 1,000 of them have been convicted. Notable arrests include Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison for seditious conspiracy. Now that Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, people are paying attention. Many worry about the future of democracy and fear a repeat of past riots.
