A California man born in the United States was shocked by receiving a notice of deportation from the Department of Homeland Security, asking him to leave the country within a week. Emails from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) claimed that his parole was over and that he had no legal status to remain in the country. According to ABC 10 News San Diego, the man, Aldo Martinez Gomez, is an accredited immigration representative and advocates for others who help others navigate the court system. He believes that the information was sent to him incorrectly due to his involvement in immigration work, and it may be because in the case the immigrant used his email address. Martinez Gomez, born in a national city and a U.S. citizen, said it felt more like intimidation than a clerical error. He fears the incident reflects a wider focus on the current government's approach to immigration enforcement, even incorrectly targeting citizens. The Department of Homeland Security later admitted that if the immigrant listed an email address that belonged to someone else, the notification might have been sent to the wrong person. They promised to handle such cases separately, but that did not worry Martinez Gomez (the seven-day deadline has expired).
