The IRS's top boss is resigning as many chaos updates within the agency. Krause's resignation was a final agreement between the IRS and the Department of Homeland Security to share taxpayer data to help immigrants enforce the law. Other reasons include feeling uncomfortable with the direction of the agency and the recent appearance of the latest professional officials. The three IRS specialists are now less than a year. Danny Werfel, appointed by Biden, resigned on the day of the inauguration. His successor Doug O'Donnell refused to sign a data sharing agreement in February and retired shortly after. Krause worked for only three and a half years with the IRS and then stepped in to act as an agent. “Melanie Krause has been leading the IRS through a period of extraordinary change,” a Treasury Department spokesman said. “We hope Melanie will go well with the next effort.” Many senior officials refused to sign the DHS agreement on the grounds of legal issues. As a result, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent finally signed the memorandum.
