Supreme Court suspends the judge's order to be deported by those who are wrongly deported to El Salvador

Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily suspended court orders Monday night, demanding that the Trump administration bring back a Maryland man who was wrongly deported to a dangerous prison in El Salvador. The man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, is a 29-year-old El Salvador national who has legally allowed to live and work in the United States and holds a licensed metal worker in the United States. He had no criminal record and married an American citizen. In 2019, an immigration judge ruled that he should not be deported because returning to El Salvador could put him at risk of gang violence. Abrego Garcia ended up in El Salvador’s terror incarceration center, a prison known for possessing gang members. A federal judge ordered the U.S. government to bring him back before midnight on Monday, calling the deportation “totally impossible” and lacks evidence that he has been involved in gangs like MS-13. The Justice Department retreated, saying that the United States no longer controls him and cannot force his return. Chief Justice Roberts paused for a while to give the court more time to consider the case. Meanwhile, the federal appeals court also criticized the deportation, saying the government had clearly made a mistake. Abrego Garcia's lawyers said the case raised serious concerns about the government's responsibility and warned other deportations. The Trump administration also requires the Supreme Court to use centuries-old wartime laws to allow other immigrants to be deported to the same prison. He is expected to stay there until the Supreme Court makes a final decision.
