Delaware hires former NFL star DeSean Jackson as head coach

Days after Michael Vick was named head coach at Norfolk State, one of his most reliable targets, NFL All-Pro DeSean Jackson, has followed in his footsteps, accepting Received the head coaching position at Delaware State University. The former wide receiver accepted the job Thursday, as first reported by Jeff Lightsy Jr. Both teams compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Spartans defeated Delaware State 38-19 earlier this year. The Hornets are last in the division with a 1-10 record. Like Vick, Jackson faces an uphill battle, but he has strong communication skills and the ability to connect with players. Seeing a quality player like Jackson emerge on the recruiting trail gives hope to a program that has struggled since 2015 with an 8-48 record. Former head coach Rod Milstead's overall record of 5-18 suggested the program needed a fresh start. Jackson is a great addition and it will be interesting to hear his vision and how he plans to lead the team. Jackson is a three-time Pro Bowler who had a 15-year NFL career. He finished his playing career with more than 11,500 yards from scrimmage and 58 touchdowns in 183 games. Vick and Jackson immediately produced two must-see programs at historically black colleges, paving the way for even more attention on HBCUs heading into 2025.
