
Lizzo entered the spotlight in a whole new way, which is on the big screen. The four-time Grammy Award-winning artist will debut in her first film premiere, portraying sister Rosetta Tharpe, a pioneering guitarist known as the godmother of rock music, on the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios Biopic, Rosetta, Rosetta. Blues and rock music shape the sound of modern music. Her influence echoes through legendary works such as Elvis, Johnny Cash and Little Richard. Although she died in 1973 at the age of 58, Rosetta Tharpe's legacy continues to grow. Her iconic record, “Riverside Down Records,” was added to the national recording registry in 2004 and was hunted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Lizzo shared the news with fans on Instagram on Monday (March 24) and simply wrote: “Black people made rock music.” The announcement comes just days after Lizzo posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the erasure and misreatment of Black women in music, stating she's “reclaiming rock n roll for US…” While Lizzo has made memorable cameos in Hustlers, The Simpsons, and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Rosetta will mark her first time in a leading film role.The music icon is also gearing up to release her next studio album, Love In Real Life, featuring single “Still Not Good” and the title track.
