For most people, Christmas can be a happy time, but for some, it can be downright scary, depending on your circumstances. Many of us will be celebrating this holiday alone. However, we have some tips to help you improve your Christmas spirit. Volunteer at a local shelter Research shows that whenever we help others when they are feeling low, our moods improve. From feeding the homeless to giving away Christmas shelter parcels, helping others really puts things into perspective. Doing so not only spreads Christmas joy, but is also a heart-warming experience. Be Kind to Yourself Many times we forget to give ourselves some love. There’s no better feeling than a quick pick-me-up and some self-care. Whether it's scheduling a spa day or dining out at your favorite restaurant, don't feel guilty about treating yourself. Binge Watching Your Favorite Holiday Movies There’s something comforting about snuggling up under the covers and watching a feel-good Christmas movie. Not only can you still get that Christmas feeling, but getting lost in a fictional winter wonderland is a healthy way to escape reality. There’s nothing wrong with getting a head start by writing your New Year’s resolution list. Setting goals helps you stay on track and stay motivated. This is also a good time for some self-reflection. Take a moment to jot down some of the things you want to accomplish in the new year. Stay away from social media Last but not least, limit your social media intake. While it might be cool to see everyone's family photos, it can also bring sadness to the fact that you're spending the holidays alone. This can also bring about comparisons with others, which can also lead to sadness. If you're not careful, seeing a news feed filled with Christmas-themed photos can be distressing and triggering for your mental health. This is actually a good time to take a break from social media. No matter your circumstances, Christmas is still a magical time. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to celebrate the holidays. Christmas is what you make it and enjoy it however you see fit. Don’t forget to keep your head high and stay strong. Like this: Like Loading… Discover more from Baller Alert Subscribe to have the latest posts delivered to your email.
