
A nimble 9-year-old North Carolina student was hailed as a hero after performing Heimlich manipulation to save his classmates from suffocation. The incident happened last week at Raleigh Oak Charter Elementary School and was arrested on security cameras. Jayceon Branch started his move when he noticed his 7-year-old friend Donye Moore, trying to breathe after suffocating on Granola Bar during a break on the basketball court. Videowithout hesitates, Jayceon performs Heimlich Maneuver, successfully breaks away from the food and saves Donye's life. “Because the teacher saw a student choking, the student came to the teacher and started doing it, and the teacher started doing what I did to Donye.” Eric Johnson, executive director of Raleigh Oak Charter School, praised Jayceon’s quick and brave response. “He is a hero; Johnson said he just saved a child’s life. Donye’s mother, Aja Moore, expressed his gratitude. “I’m just grateful to his friends for being able to prove it to him,” she said. In honor of Jayceon's heroism, the school held a “clap” on Monday, with students, teachers and parents cheering as Jayceon and Donye walked through the hall.
