Large numbers of wildfires burning in North and South Carolina prompt states of emergency and evacuation

Wildfires continue to be angry in northern North Carolina and South Carolina, with more than 160 active fires in North Carolina and 80 cases as of Tuesday. The largest fire burned near Myrtle Beach, has spread over more than 2,000 acres and has largely remained inferior. Residents were ordered to evacuate and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency. By Sunday afternoon, firefighters had included 30% of the fires, but that number had not increased as of Tuesday morning. A Blackhawk helicopter and plane were seen dripping onto the flames while ground personnel were digging out the containment line around the fire, North Carolina burned more than 2,300 acres, and the largest wildfire in Polk County covered more than 600 acres. Officials reported that 91% of the fire had been controlled. Despite the evacuation of Horry County, fire officials urged residents to be cautious as weather conditions could lead to an outbreak.
