Baller Alert caught up with Janelle James at the NAACP Image Awards, and Abbott Elementary won the Outstanding Comedy Series Award. As the show continues to dominate, James opens up the role of the principal Ava Coleman and what makes the hit series so special. When asked about the personality of getting involved in AVA's larger than life, James reviewed the meaning of the character. “Some people call her an iconic one,” she said. “So, it's amazing to be part of the dictionary – forever.” She praised the show's ensemble cast, emphasizing that their chemistry was there since day one. “We were Kismet together. That’s because we fired all the cylinders from episode one and I was lucky enough to be part of this actor. She recalled the stand-up appearance of Damon Wayans 15 years ago, even before she saw comedy as a career — and how inspiring Kim Wayans’ presence as a bold, hilarious black woman. “They also taught me the importance of pulling others with others,” James said.
