During Women's History Month, history is being made! WNBA's latest expansion team, The Toronto Tempo, released an exciting announcement Monday morning. Tennis legend Serena Williams was introduced as part-time owner of the team and joined Larry Tanenbaum, chairman of Kilmer Sports Ventures. Williams' history in Canada is interesting and many may not know. She won her first Rodgers Cup in 2001 and went on to be a three-time champion at the Canadian Championship. Last April, Williams hinted that she wanted to add a WNBA team to her portfolio. The opportunity seemed to come at the perfect time, and she expressed her excitement in the statement. “This moment is not just about basketball. “It’s about showing the true value and potential of female athletes,” Williams said in a statement released by the team. “I have always said that women's sports is an incredible investment opportunity. I'm happy to work with Larry and Canada throughout to create this new WNBA franchise and legacy. She is no stranger to investing and has already held bets at the Miami Dolphins and Angel City Football Club.
