Two American tourists in the Bahamas were injured in an apparent shark attack.

In a press release shared by the Royal Bahamas Police Force on Saturday, February 8, the department said they were investigating the “alleged shark attack” involving two American women.

Their identities were not released publicly, but authorities said the incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 7.

According to initial reports, two women swam in the waters of the luxury resort Bimini Bay during the alleged attack. Both received local treatment before being “aired to New Providence for further medical treatment.” ”

“One of the victim's injuries was listed as serious,” the press release said, adding that “an investigation is underway.”

Royal Bahamas Police Force did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday, February 10.

The ABC quoted Bahamian officials as citing reports that the women have since returned to the United States and have injured their lower body.

According to the exit, a family of the victim said she will undergo a third surgery in Orlando, Florida to repair the damage to the leg.

According to ABC News, an attack in the Bahamas was reportedly taken in December 2024, when Lauren Erickson Van Wart, 44, was killed while paddling. The Royal Bahamas Police Force said the woman was rowing near the back of the Sandalls resort during the attack.
