Proud Boy Loses Trademark Rights in Historic Black Church in DC

The Washington, D.C. Superior Court judge ruled that the proud boy no longer controls his name and similarities, but instead places the rights at the Metropolitan Methodist Bishop (AME) Church, the historic black church in Washington, D.C. In response to the ruling, which was issued on Monday, transferred the Proud Boys International LLC trademark to Metropolitan AME and left a lien on the trademark. In addition, the court permanently blocked the sale, transfer or permission of the name of the proud boy without the approval of the church or the court. The case stems from the 2020 attacks, including its founder, Enrique Tarrio, aimed at destroying Metropolitan AME and Asbury United Methodist Church burned black life matters in the process flag. The group failed to respond to the lawsuit, resulting in a judge making a breach of contract judgment on the church. The proud boy failed to respond within 21 days, resulting in the latest court decision transferring control of the trademark. Following the ruling, Tario dismissed the decision, telling the Washington Post, “I wiped my A-Judge's decision.” But, since the current Metropolitan Church now has full control over the name of the proud boy and Brands, so any use of the group's name must be done through the institution they have ever attacked.
