The fifth year of classes has officially started! ABC has announced that its hit series Abbott Elementary has been renewed for a fifth season. The mockumentary-style sitcom, currently in its fourth season, continues to win rave reviews from viewers and critics alike. Most recently, thanks to a crossover episode with “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the show's winter premiere garnered 8.05 million viewers. The show airs every Wednesday at 8:30 pm on ABC and the following day on Hulu. The show stars Quinta Brunson as optimistic and determined teacher Janine Teagues and features a talented cast including Tyler James Williams (Gregory Eddie), Janelle James (Janelle James) (Principal Ava Coleman), Lisa Ann Walter (Melissa Shementi), Chris Perfetti (Jacob Hill), William Stanford Davis (Johnson Sir), and Emmy Award winner Sheryl Lee Ralph (Barbara Howard). Set in an underfunded elementary school in Philadelphia, the series follows this group of dedicated educators, their unconventional principal, and resourceful guardians as they navigate the challenges of public education while finding fun and humor in their work. Filmed in documentary style, the comedic legacy of Abbott Elementary Channel's “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Modern Family.” Since its premiere, the show has received critical acclaim, including four Emmy Awards. Brunson and Ralph both received acting credits, and Brunson was also recognized for his writing. The next episode of Season 4, titled “Strike,” explores timely themes. Plot synopsis: “City buses are out of service due to a strike, causing many students to miss school. Abbott's teachers try to find creative solutions and adapt to hybrid learning. Meanwhile, Gregory and O'Shon develop a friendship.” Abbott Elementary” was created by Quinta Brunson, who also serves as executive producer along with Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker of Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Randall Einhorn and Brian Rubenstein. The series is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios.
